Campus
Originally established in 1984 in La Canada Flintridge, the school purchased ten
acres of land in the equestrian community of Lake View Terrace, nestled into the
foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, and opened its newly built campus in January
2003. Located in the northeast corner of the San Fernando Valley, the new campus
is only a twelve-minute drive on the 210 freeway from its former home.
The new campus houses spacious air-conditioned classrooms, art and music rooms and
administrative offices. The research library, available to the entire student body,
is wired with computers dedicated to on-line research. The main reading libraries
are located within each classroom and consist of a total of over 2,000 titles in
addition to grade-specific research materials.
Computers are in use throughout the school and are available in every classroom,
since instruction in computer use is part of the daily schedule. There is also a
computer lab used solely by Lower and Elementary School students for the drilling
of computerized math facts. The Middle and Upper Schools have five to ten computers
in each classroom that run a variety of the latest versions of the most popular
business applications (word processing, spreadsheets and databases). Students also
use their classroom computers for on-line research, as well as for their CD-ROM
capabilities. An additional, state-of-the-art computer lab is being created to give
students access to digital imaging, video editing, web design and more.
The large science lab provides students with a very hands-on approach to learning
anything from elementary to advanced biology, chemistry and physics as well as electronics
and related disciplines. Science Fairs are held every spring.
Outdoor facilities include a large playground for the younger children, asphalt
play and sports areas as well as a regulation soccer field, paddleball court, a
track and softball diamond.
Plans for the construction of Phase Two include an indoor-outdoor theatre, lunchroom
and gymnasium.
